Lee
Lee Roy Selmon's life is a combination of football scholarship, family service and community involvement. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. He was also one of three siblings who represented Oklahoma in football. Three of them were All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the United States by Outland and Lombardi Awards. In his three years as a starter Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and won two national championships. In 1975, he was awarded his third scholarship, and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree from the university of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week of volunteer time in college. After graduation, Lee Roy settled in Tampa where he spent nine years playing for the Buccaneers. There were three times, he was named an All-Pro. Lee Roy began his professional career. By 1988 he had become an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked in these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's 10 outstanding young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in size and weighed in at 256 pounds in his college days. He was captain of the team in 1975. In 1993, Roy joined the university of south Fla's athletic department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame by his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as in the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. The presentation was made by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
